Crazy phone day yayfuture_sandwormJanuary 9 2010, 20:25:02 UTC
"There was a man so wise He jumped into A sandy place And burnt out both his eyes! And when he knew his eyes were gone, He offered no complaint. He summoned up a vision And made himself a saint."
Max wasn't sure exactly what he wanted to say, if anything, since he still wasn't entirely sure how things were settling out, but... After 'Dite's little revelation he felt like he... owed it to her somehow. To check in. To let her know that, for the moment at least, he was doing fine.
"'Dite, it's Karla! I'm so sorry, I fell--" Karla realized then that 'Dite probably couldn't care less about her excuses. She could give them after she told her the news. "It wasn't him, 'Dite, you were right. Max is innocent and I've started telling everyone. I meant to call last night, but I just fell asleep with my phone in my hand and all my clothes on and everything. I'm so sorry 'Dite. Call me back and I'll give you all the details!"
It was amazing she could fit so many words into such a short message.
When Aphrodite got the message, she sighed in relief. If there was more than a hint of satisfaction in the sigh, well, no one was around to hear it.
She called Karla back, not sure if she wanted to get voice mail or Karla herself.
"Hi, Karla, it's 'Dite. Thanks for letting me know what was up." She hesitated. "We should talk. Can you come to the store sometime this week? I'd really appreciate it."
After taking a night to process what he'd heard from Raven, Max called Aphrodite. "I told you I'd call when I heard, so I'm calling. Just wanted to let you know that things seem to be resolved. You might have heard that already."
His voice was fond as he added, "Now you can stop losing sleep over me."

He jumped into
A sandy place
And burnt out both his eyes!
And when he knew his eyes were gone,
He offered no complaint.
He summoned up a vision
And made himself a saint."
