End of Year Writing Meme

Jan 05, 2015 21:53

A meme resurrected this January by complexlight for reviewing the year in writing. I've only done the writing-specific questions from the meme here as I use my LJ purely for writing. But thank you for this meme! Interesting to think about.

Your main fandom of the year?
Lewis. And as a little prelude:

I still find it so hard to believe that you'd never done creative writing before jumping into Lewis fandom! Not only was your work so good right from the start, but your total word count for the year is incredibly impressive.

It's been such a pleasure and a privilege BRing for you, especially since I get the opportunity to read your work first, and also to contribute in some small way to the creative process.

So I have a question: what's your favourite of your current WIPs, or favourite story that's still just an idea in your head?

I am quite proud of my word count! (Mine includes my SS fic not yet on Ao3 but definitely written and posted in 2014). I had no idea writing could be such a pleasure or such an outlet, despite being a fairly avid reader for years. It was simply "something that other people can do" until I gave it a go to get a Lewis/Hathaway scene out of my head onto paper. They are entirely too intriguing as characters, separately - and then when you put them together...;). Thank you, though for that lovely comment. And especially for the beta'ing and offering to do that in the first place - I know offering concrit in comments is not an easy thing for anyone to do (even when I was trying to make very clear I was genuinely asking for it). And it was so enlightening to enter into that beta process - plus it made a huge difference in getting stories done, that probably wouldn't have seen the light of day otherwise ( ... )

Good Lord, that is a lot of words! I've definitely got output envy with you and Wendy ;-)

Interesting to read how difficult you found Night Watch, because it doesn't come across in the fic at all. I love that story - all of Robbie's grumpiness and James' determination to look after him properly, and how they end up sleep and snuggly and . . . *happy sigh*

So glad you don't "associate this whole writing lark with disappointment" - quite right! That makes me very happy :-)

I'm particularly glad that that fic found your softspot for grumpy!Robbie - and for the the rest of that happy sigh!

I think part of the difficulty was that when I wrote it the first time I was still trying to write in a sparse style (which really does not come naturally!) and then going through each fic and cutting severely as I did with almost all my early fics - every description, utterance, section of narration and conversation...then by the time I decided to "tweak" it into a piece for Summer Challenge, I was following my own style more - so it landed up written in two styles until I gradually sorted it. "Tweak" was an underestimation of what needed to be done!

How lovely. Writing and all that's come with it really has brought a lot of happiness - thank you :)

I've just spotted Wendy's icon, so thought I'd get in on the hand action!

The problem with writing sex scenes is that you can't see innocent things like hands, without remembering what they've been doing . . .

...like James's hands on Laura's thighs, or vice versa? ;)

This is not only remembering The Surrender of James Hathaway, but also anticipating what I believe will be a scorching fic from you!

These are great hand icons - but that is a problem, yes!

Well- so many choices for what to remember now...and many more to come ;) Made me smile that you're remembering that fic now though! Thanks :D.
