1. Name: Toni
2. Age (no one under 13, please): 20
3. Location: somewhere in Ohio
4. Three positive adjectives to describe yourself: open-minded, curious, loyal
5. Three negative adjectives to describe yourself: impatient, selfish, shy
6. What do you (or did you) want to be when you grow up?: I want to work in a zoo nursery, raising the animals, and have since I was in the 5th grade. I would especially like to work with the big cats.
7. What is the meaning/derivation/significance of your username?: Son of the Shadows is a favorite book of mine and in it there is a fortress that everyone called Sidhe Dubh. It was built in the middle of a swamp and almost impossible to break into, which I found intriguing, but the real draw was when the heroine mentioned that Sidhe Dubh was also the name of a faery fortress in their lore. I love faeries and anything to do with them, hence the name.
8. Favourite three books: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I have read it 9 times and can still find things I love about it. If I ever have a daughter I am going to buy her a copy when she is 10 or 11 because that is how old I was when I read it for the first time and I think it is a book all little girls should read.
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. My mom read it to me when I was 7 and I cried. I have read it on my own 7 times since then and I still cry. It wrenches the heart. My dad even teared up when he read it.
The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan. I love all of Tan's books because of the way she portrays mother/daughter relationships, but this one hit me harder than most because how close it resembles the life my mom lived before I was born and how much it mirrors the relationship I have with my mom.
9. Favourite three movies: The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I fell in love with it the first time I saw the Fellowship in the theater. It was beautiful to watch in the first place, and I could not have hoped for better characters or plot.
Riding in Cars with Boys. Like The Kitchen God's Wife this is something else that is so close to my life it is scary. The things Jason went through as a child, been there, his relationship with his mother, done that ... there is even a woman who acts just like my dad's so-called girlfriend.
Schindler's List. I am attracted to all things black and white, so that alone made me love it. It was also a wonderful portrayal of the tragedy and horror of the time, even though it focused mostly on Schindler himself. Besides, I love to listen to Liam Neeson.
10. Do you have any creative talents? (feel free to provide examples): Well, I like to write, but I don't know if I would call it a talent. I have had writer's block for years now.
11. Where is your favourite place to be, and why?: My grandma's house, because it is the one thing that has always been a constant in my life. I feel safe there.
12. What is your favourite holiday, and why?: Christmas. The whole family gets together and I get to see people that I don't hear from the rest of the year, people I love. It also always felt magical to me when was I was little, with the snow and suppressed air of excitement. And I still love the trees, the lights, the ornaments. The cartoon specials. It is just different from the rest of the year. It reminds me of what it felt like to be a kid.
13. If you were going to be a superhero, what powers would you want to have?: I wouldn't want powers. I would want to be like Batman and get by with my brains and super-cool gadgets.
14. Are you willing to accept cross-gendered stamps/votes?: Yes, but I would prefer a goddess to a god.
15. Anything else we should know?: Thank you for your time and patience.
16. Please post at least three clear pictures of yourself, or provide us with a description of yourself: I am short. I have not reached 5 feet and don't think that will be changing. There is also a little more to me than I would like, but I am not freaking out over it. I am healthy, so it doesn't matter. I have brown hair that I like to keep short, although my bangs get out of control sometimes, and brown eyes. My face is rather square and the best thing about it is the high cheekbones that I inherited from my mom and her side of the family.
