Why hate music?

Will someone please clear something up for me?

When someone says, "This is a terrible song?" What makes that song bad? I do not understand what is bad about any song. I understand what a bad performance is, i.e. out of tune, bad rhythm, poor tone quality. But I do not understand what constitutes bad song writing ( Read more... )

I think, David, that a lot of the time it is due to the genre of music preffered and the genre of the music presented. People who are say, into Country might think that a Hardcore song it "terrible" do to the excessive screaming of everything, etc, compared to the actual singing/instrumentation often present in country music. Also, lyrics often play into it, at least for me. The other day I was searching for a present (to no avail) in Spencer's Gifts and a heavy metal/screaming/dark song thing type was playing and soemthing made me listen to the lyrics which were "Be yourself; Don't be anybody else; Get away from me" (which were screamed) or something very similar to that. I laughed, because those are very bad lyrics, especially to be placed into a dark and brooding song as it was. Also, I think music can be bad if there is absolutely no passion behind the song writing/performing, and it is simply something out of a can. Though those canned songs can be quite catchy... Yeah, I honestly don't know what I'm talking about.

in my complete opinion, i dont think there are any terrible songs. i think a terrible song is a song not performed to its full potential i guess. but ya the rythym makes sense and stuff, but i think that all music is good, its just what you like and what you dont like. nothing is bad just because someone doesnt like it. thats why i hate when people are all " oh man that band sucks!!!!! they are so bad!!!" and then i'm all "uhh...i never asked you to like them. i like them and just cause you dont doesnt mean they are bad" ya know? its a very touchy subject of mine.

everyone enjoys different kinds of music... and sometimes things about other artists or genres piss me off, like country, thats terrbile in many ways, i dont like songs with annoying voices singing, alot of people may like hte voices but its just my personal preference. like hilary duff, or celine dion, i cant stand it. anothing thing that causes me to hate a song is when theres no talent, like hilary duff or christina agulara(sp) when other poeple write hte music and lyrics and they sing. also just how songs appeal to poeple... my personality relates more to rock than thats sappy crap celine dion sings.

plus everything you said is correct, what i said is just the things that make me dislike a song and say it "sucks"

i have yet to see ou offer any kind of explanation, perhaps you donthave one or you like every song youve ever heard, which i find hard to believe, if you say its true then youve never liked a song, havent you ever heard a song you loved so much it gives you goosebumps down your spine and pumps adrenaline through you? perhaps the song that doesent do that for you isnt a bad one, but people develop standards. rather than bash others explanations you should keep your mouth shut. thats just low
