I figured that with internet access all along our trip, I'd be able to post along the way about our various adventures.  Well, not so much because every day was super full.  It was all I could do to stay on top of email!  It was a worthy last child-free vacation, especially considering all the constraints I have, though it doesn't match up to some ( Read more... )

Bummer about Crater Lake, I've always wanted to go there. I'm a bit surprised that with the Shasta stop, you guys didn't make a point out of Lassen Volcanic park. I love your itinerary though. I think I'm going to mark this post as reference.

Arcata feels a bit like stepping into a time warp. But Cathedral Grove is AWESOME. There are plenty of "edible plants" those tie-dyed dreadlocked hippies will be happy to sell you. ;-)

Wow! I had no idea wtf a geoduck was, but now I have to try one!! Pike's Place is fun. Gotta remember to hit that up again on the next Seattle trip in Aug. Thanks for the recap.

Lassen just didn't quite fit, though I certainly did consider it! It would've cost another day, and we really needed a whole day in Oakhurst for Ryan to prep for school and to get laundry done. Luckily Lassen is only a day's drive out from my parents place, so we could probably make it there for a 4-day weekend sometime.

Funny point on the geoduck - for all the seafood places at Pike's Place, the only one to serve it turned out to the little hole-in-the-wall Chinese place!

BTW, you should definitely write up a travelogue of your Belize/Guatemala trip. Trust me that it's worth the time and effort, even if only for your own gratification a few years later. You will start to forget (as I realize every time I go back and read my old ones)!
