Basic Maintenance

Festival has been over for a month now, and I have been turning my attention to getting ready for winter.

I don't really want to discuss Festival management and communication issues.  They are many, complex, and annoying.  However, the performance elements have been fantastic, and all of my own efforts. I had my two best tip days ever this year, and overall, it was my best.  Assuming I back next year, this is a good thing, as I am going to have to replace my Catskills.  I'm thinking a fancy pair of lace-ups from Son of Sandlar, as they have heavier soles and are better suited to accepting insoles.

I took seven days off from work after Fest was over, and some of that time was spent visiting medical professionals.  I now have a definitive diagnoses from the podiatrist of plantar fasciitis in both feet, and a Morton's neuroma in my left.  I'll probably go in for cortisol injections for the neuroma at some point.  For the fasciitis, I've got the bootie for sleeping in (although I almost always take it off in my sleep), and a recommendation for Super Feet insoles.  I'm liking them a lot.  My feet still hurt some, but they have greatly improved since I stopped abusing them at Fest, and I started wearing the insoles, especially when I run.  As for the annual physical, I  have a new prescription for migraines (lower dosage generic Imetrex, and the blood work came back perfectly normal.

As for the rest of my time off, I puttered.  I had a list of things I wanted to get done, and absolutely no timeline or priorities for getting them done.  I mean, I did do the outdoor chores on the nice days, and the indoor task when it was cold and rainy.  I spent lots of time being a Lap and knitting.  I donated a lot of stuff to Goodwill, and played House Tetris.  I moved the compost closer to the house, and I cleared out a few more scrub trees from the property line.  I bought new bookcases, winter boots, and tried to find a new winter coat I liked.  I got the oil changed and the radiator flushed in my car.  I found a dry cleaner that didn't freak out over the beadwork and fringe on my Fest costume (I really did not want to clean them myself again, and I need to go pick them up this week).  I got had another contractor come over to look at the roof, and he submitted a more comprehensive estimate to the insurance company - were now waiting for them to give a response.  The porch is now cleaned and ready for winter.

I also purchased four new books of music, including a classical fake book.  I really want to add some of the "classical" repertoire to my Fest show; heck I want a whole new play list.  I've identified a lot of pieces I want to play, there's a lot more I need to add, and, I need to practice.

There is more puttering to do, but there's a nice long winter coming up to putter during.
