You will probably have to order bamboo or hemp online, I've not seen it in fabric stores down here(Texas).

I prefer flat cotton but you may find that you need flannel to soak up the fluids a bit quicker, it will depend on your flow. You can also use the bamboo or hemp as the top if you prefer.

I kind of thought that might be the case with the bamboo and hemp. I didn't realize you could use them as a topper. Almost everything I've read so far uses them as as cores. I'm not done reading by a long shot, though!

I'll keep everything in mind.

Thanks so much!

I use them as core fabric and as topper http://www.etsy.com/listing/68667485/8-inch-extra-absorbent-cloth-menstrual these are dyed but they don't have to be

I'm in Canada, and I've found flannel to be very warm. It'll be way worse in Texas.
I'd go with cotton.

That's what I'm afraid of! Though we occasionally get some good cold fronts...

I use flannel as the top layer and cotton in between. Its fine, I live in hot and humid Hawaii and its not been a problem for me.

I actually tried a cotton top today for the first time and its really nice (feeling) but doesn't soak up as fast so if you have a heavy flow it might not work as well.

Hawaii- so awesome! Hot and humid is where I live most of the time, too. But the absorbency does seem better with flannel so far from everyone's responses... thanks!

I think you might have to give it a try yourself to decide.... for me it depends on the day. I think that in the summer I'd be unlikely to use flannel for the top, but it's kinda nice in the winter.

The flat cotton is most definitely cooler/less stick-to-me than the flannel is in my experience.

Good luck!

Oh yeah... also, you might take a look for the minky/fleecy type covers. They somehow don't get too hot for me... and they absorb/pass the fluid pretty quickly. And boy do they feel soft! :D

Cool- I'll check out that fabric type, too. Thanks!

I already have some cotton flannel, but when I compare them to the plain cotton I do feel a difference in temperature. I still want to make at least one out of that flannel just to try it, but draw a blank when I try think about making more than a couple of them for use every time.

I live in the central valley in CA and summer temps are regularly above 100. I haven't noticed a difference between flannel and flat cotten tops. It's hot no matter what I am wearing or not wearing.

lol! That's what it feels like here, too, in the summer, hot no matter what.
