Making my first pads

Hi,

I'm new here and would like to know your opinion on how I'm planning my first pads. Here's what I thought I'd do:

First, I'm using the same pattern throughout, a rather large winged pad ("Pad Shape #2 on www.labyrinth.net.au/~obsidian/clothpads/DIYpads/Patterns.html) with the "AIO Hidden Core" method.

For the night pads I want to use:

Sounds pretty good! But, I have a few comments anyway. If you use a machine that's relatively weak (or wash by hand), three layers of bamboo fleece backed in PUL may not come out clean on a single wash cycle, so you might want to just make one to try out before making a whole bunch; if you need to, you can make a multi-part design that's easier to clean. You may also find that PUL feels hot or isn't necessary for your flow and you won't want it in all your pads, so try a few with and without it before making a whole stash one way or the other. Also, you might find that your pantyliners are more absorbent (and thicker) than necessary for everyday use; if you try them out (after making just a few first) and agree, a substitution of a couple layers of flannel would probably do fine. Best of luck!

I'm a fan of flannel for the bottom layer. It's a good fabric to provide "stick" to the panties. Bamboo velour (well, any velour would likely work, I happen to have bamboo) is fabulous, too. And as a topper. Luxurious!

I think it sounds fine, but will produce quite a thick pad. The wraparound part alone will be 4 laters - 8 underneath where the pad fastens. Since you're using PUL, you could probably omit one layer of bamboo fleece and still have a fairly heavy duty pad. Not that a thick pad is *bad*, but they are a bit more difficult to clean.

Doh, I missed that the first item was overnight pads, and somehow didn't see the rest. Trying to read on a teeny phone screen after a long day. Your fabric choices and number of layers sound fine.

Thanks for your input. I'll try some pads after your suggestions, and see how it goes.

Best wishes,
Angela
