Stash size? Plus a couple more questions.
I've been thinking of making my own cloth pads for a while, but between work and college, I've only had enough time now to start making them.
I actually tried an overnight pad, which worked really well. But then I forgot to rinse it out, so even if I didn't smell anything, the ants certainly did. Ick.
I've got four overnight pads finished and about seven daily pads about to be made right now, so that should be enough for two or three days with a wash in-between. I hear that the average amount of pads people need are around 10-20. My period flow is average and lasts for three-ish days, but it also tends to involve a day or two of spotting before AND after. Would seven to ten daily pads still be good for that, as long as I wash the used pads out?
Also, would an elastic band of some sort be okay for keeping a wingless pad in place? I detest winged pads on disposable pads, because for me they'll inevitably end up losing their stickiness much faster than the main pad, which leads to bunching up and being a general nuisance down there. I'm thinking of sewing a wide elastic (about an inch wide) with a snap onto the backs of my pads so I can just clip them onto my underwear and leave them.
I was looking at buying pads for a while, but they're all colorful or they have nice patterns. And it's fine for people who like them, but why use nice fabric for something you're going to bleed on? So my own pads are just hand-sewn strips of white cotton flannel with a layer or two of terrycloth inside.
