So, I've been looking around for take out boxes (like what you get at Chinese take out restaurants) for our candy bar. Does anyone have any experience making these? If I can get them from a restaurant supplier, I can get them fairly cheaply, but I've found many templates online. Just wondering what kind of paper you make them out of and if they're ( Read more... )

I haven't made or used them, but I do have a suggestion for you. In college for my interior design classes we had to use this almost poster board like material for making models. You score it with an exacto knife and it folds perfectly. If you plan on making them yourself, I'd definitely check your local craft store and find that stuff--it is very sturdy and once you score it the shape is great!

It's not like a foam core is it? When I took design classes we used foam core... It's thinner than that?

No, it's not foam core. Oh! I just remembered! It's called Bristol board. It's really thin and would be *perfect*!

That is kind of what I was thinking. If you factor in the ink used to print the templates out alone, most places are cheaper to buy than to DIY...

I found a ton of them at Dollar Tree. I don't know if you have one of those in your area, but if so I'd try there.

We have several dollar trees in our area. I'll check it out. Avoiding shipping would be great.

honestly, if you're going to make those, regular scrapbook cardstock would be a good choice of paper. tons of great color/pattern choices. I am a paper artist and honestly, with the folds and what-not. that paper would work just fine. JoAnn's often has a 5/$1 sale! Or you can search online for bulk if you want all the same pattern or color.
