I never know what to call these things...

So in the recent torrential downpour in the northeast, my mom's friend lost a cherry tree.  However, it ended up being a gain for my wedding!

I love this idea, but I have one piece of advice for you - as the wood dries out, it *will* crack, and shrink into a pie-with-one-slice-missing shape. The only way to fully prevent this is to impregnate the wood with massive amounts of glue (totally impractical), but you can stave it off by sanding and sealing the flat surfaces with something like deck sealant. If your wedding is really soon, you can probably forgo it, but if it's more than three or four months away, I'd consider a painting party.

Sad about the tree, but that's some great reclaiming!

thanks for the tip! i didn't add that we're going to shellac them because honestly i didn't want to spell it wrong, haha, but i looked it up for this reply!
