A friend pointed me to this community, so I made a live-journal account and joined. I'm just figuring out the layout of the site, so forgive me if I'm bumbling. As for the wedding, a whole lot is still up in the air here (I'm really not the wedding-planning type, but I'll admit it's kind of fun). Welcome! I'm another 2012, DIY bride - feel free to add me to your Friend List. You'll find lots of good DIY ideas and advice here if you look in the tags.

If you're looking for a more active community, there is also a TON of activity over at weddingplans, another LJ community. They have some great DIY info over there, as well as questions and answers and just general sharing of ideas on EVERYTHING wedding-related, from dresses to etiquette to anxiety... it's all there. :) Best of luck planning!

I think I would prefer NC too, it's where I grew up, and I think it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's a good meet in the middle too, as his family is in Georgia and mine is in NY.

The rings will be soldered and formed (as opposed to cast). I can thank art school for the know-how, and for the access to a metal shop. I want to set some small sapphires into the rings as well, but I'm still working on the best way to do that. It will also have to do with budget. My fiance and I have already agreed on 18k gold, which isn't cheap, so adding stones may be too much. We'll still be saving a heck of a lot by not buying the rings though, and they will be all the more meaningful for it.

I live in/grew up in Virginia and my fiance moved here 5 years ago from Ohio and we're getting married in the Outer Banks but not on the Beach. We fell in love with the town of Manteo on Roanoke Island... all of the beachy fun for the out-of-towners and a quaint little town for an indoor/outdoor non-beach theme gig.
