Every year, people get really surprised at how warm it is in mid-late September. Every year. You'd think the idea of "Indian summer" would have become incorporated into the culture at some point.
Same thing when we get a decent warm spell in March or early April, and then it goes back to being cold for another 3-4 weeks before it really starts heating up again. Every year, people are surprised when it gets cold after that early warm spell.
