Light? Air? Actual sunlight? White paint and plants?
I'm not surprised that your new firm has these things, but I'm really surprised your prior firm did not. It's not rocket science. It's massively self-defeating for a company to so ignore basic human needs.
Coming from an environment where none of these sorts of encouragements are in place, and where indeed some people will stay quite late every night, it feels a bit weird to suddenly be compelled to clear-out after a certain time. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not yet, but it's certainly different.
It's a good thing. Get the heck out of there and live life for yourself, not for unseen stockholders. Also, think about it from a workplace-psychology POV: isn't it better to send people home wishing they could work more and eager to get back the next day, than to keep them working past the point of efficiency and then send them home exhausted and grudgeful?
