i had a dream that i drove from orlando to meet anne, as she had just flown into the states. she was excited about going to dinner someplace, and when i asked where, she said, "miami?!" i was taken aback, not enjoying the thought of driving 5 hours for a meal. i was confused also how a person who had just spent a lot of time flying overseas would ( Read more... )

That's funny. I routinely ask my wife when she's heading out for a long ICU shift in high heels if those shoes are comfortable because they don't look it. She always says they are. Comfortable, that is. I'm not always sure if I should believe her. But now she's sort of a local legend at the hospital because of all the nice shoes she wears. I can't imagine her giving them up until her 50s. And they do look good, I must admit. High heels do something special to calves, you know?

they do something special to the calves for sure... they shorten them! seriously though, of course they look good. they streamline the appearance of the legs and force some extra protuberance of the rump, thus accentuating "femininity." if a woman chooses to wear them, that's her choice like anything else. in our culture high heels are not only perceived as sexy, but they're also a look of power. if nothing else, i felt powerful when i wore heels because at a certain point it became a physical feat (throw enough toxins into your body and dance for four or five hours and, girl, if you're still standing in heels you are GOOD). so it's no surprise that your wife, like many MDs/PAs/NPs that i work with, choose the look of power.

there are some shoes available these days with orthopedics in mind, so maybe that's what your wife is wearing... by your mention of her legendary status, however, i doubt it! comfortable shoes always look.. well.. comfortable! :D

Also, JC Penney is having a boot sale, and I'd highly, highly recommend getting a pair if you're going to be in New England for Christmas. These might be OTT, but they'd sure keep you warm.

He described their cornbread as 'a sponge dipped in sugar water and disguised as bread'. I think he was OK with the macaroni, but he was bemused by everything else.

Those are cute! And 'comphy' according to several commenters. And I see they have free shipping, sweet. I'd waterproof them to be safe. :)
