"It's not so much ducks, per se," Aziraphale was saying, smiling ruefully. "I quite like them, you know? I could imagine a more terrible fate. It's more not knowing the purpose, and that I seem to have been singled out to return, and I can't fathom why." Tranquil acceptance was easy to find in prayer, less easy to sustain in the course of mundane living. But considering the puzzle no longer made him feel so distressingly off-balance.
He glanced around New Orleans Square a trifle apprehensively. Crowley had offered to show him around, and while the place looked pleasant enough, he suspected it would take some getting used to. Any place where Crowley felt comfortable living generally did. "Ahh well, I suppose it will all come clear eventually..."
