Scary Shows

For future reference...if you see a listing for a show about a surgery you are going to have in a few months, and find out the patient dies: don't watch it!

Surgery info behind cut. As always, it's optional. )

FWIW I saw a show about the world's heaviest man (Manuel Uribe). He opted to lose weight through the Zone diet (which I do and is awesome :)) and lost a great deal of weight (more than 400lbs) before the hormones his lymphoma (I think it was) got in the way and stopped his weight loss. They also showed a bit on a woman who opted for gastric bypass and she survived, but I don't recall how effective the treatment was. But she didn't die, and that's good ;)

That is good. Jeff was telling me last night that the it was a problem for the woman TLC showed because she was immobile for so long. Her body couldn't handle the stress of the surgery. He said since I'm really active and relatively healthy otherwise, I shouldn't have a problem.

Aye yes, and I imagine you're a bit younger than this other woman. I'd be amazed if there were complications.

Well, 6 years younger, but yeah. I'm no 900lbs either :P I feel much better. Thank you!

i hope the dietitian shakes a leg and gets the files in. people can be so dopey. :(

sorry the show was scary. weighing 900 lbs must've been a serious risk factor in itself, which she probably understood. but still. yikes.

what does diana say about having the bypass instead of the lap band? if i'm being nosey, just ignore that question, please.

She's all for it. It'll actually be healthier for me in the long run if I lose more weight. And, it's harder to eat around than the lapband.

The lap band is actually somewhat scarier, when you know more about it.

It can snap, there's no less problems with it vs a laproscopic bypass, and you lose a LOT less weight (potentially very little overall comparatively)

yikes, snappage would be bad. i've told you, maybe, that jeannie has had a partial gastrectomy, with good results, and my brother just told me a woman he knows from hospital work has had great results from a bypass.
