Ok, so I've been booked to play the Ravenwood Arsenic and Gears festival this summer. Now, to get right down to it, this is supposed to be a steam punk festival of sorts, though it is a dark arts festival. i've been wondering WTF steampunk is too. there's a girl on my FL and a couple people in my craft community that do steampunk clothes and crafts and i still really can't figure it out.

after some cursory googling, it seems to be pretty hot n trendy right now and i hate that, but i find the aesthetic really pleasing. i completely agree with you on the airships and sky pirate stuff.

steamfashion if you scroll a bit, you'll find a listing of steampunk fashion dealers. but really, the only thing you might really need to spend money on is a nice frock coat. everything else you could probably wing from a thrift store.

too bad i'm not there cos i'd totally help you out.

Dude! I know right! I could be all like, "yo E, Steam Punk me!" and you'd be all like "Shazamablamramblarg!" LOL From some of the pictures I've found online I think I actually ahve ajacket that'll work quite nicely, it's a getting some good boots and pants to match. The of course there's all the gear and shit I see people wearing, which looks totally badass, but I keep wondering, "where do they get that shit?!"

i'm pretty sure most of them make it themselves. some girl was asking about making a clockwork canary. and this other guy had a bunch of nifty ray guns and a rifle. looked nice but homemade to me.

Not really, but I think if I'm going to keep getting as obsessed with this as I am I will be. I'm already looking into what I can do to mod the outer-shells of my headphones. I'm thinking I'll be using some copper plating with some antennae and what not, but I have to wait till I get my goggles so I can see how I can incorporate them and the headphones together for one dastardly magnificent creation! First things first though, I gotta find a junk shop...

Check out the band Abney Park on myspace. I think they sell some of their stuff, plus the band is cool and they put on a killer show at Bar Sinister

Actually, I've been following Abney Park for years and they're one of the bands scheduled to play at this Festival.

ROFL, that's nothing, there's a guy here in our office that talks like MMORPG chat from time to time, it's seriously kind of interesting in a creepy way. ;)

Speaking of MMORPG's, I just finally got my Blood Elf Warlock on Ravencrest to 70 and got my riding mount. The Sunwell is freaking awesome!

I had no idea that it had become a RL sub-culture until now myself, btu the more I keep looking into it, the more and more interested in it I'm becoming! Hell, for this show I'm changing my DJ name on their billing to Sky Captain Genesis and if things work out with me bringing my dancers, I think I'll dub them the "Clockwork Angels" to tie it all together! LOL

When I have the entire outfit together I'll get some pictures made and post 'em.
