I'm thinking of going back to school for Psychology. It would obviously be a huge career / life change. Any thoughts?

Go for it man. I think you'd do great there. As for the life change, I figure if my ass can be doin premed and workin toward med school anyone can do anything :)

Sounds like a huge decision. But if you're interested, go for it. This economy is forcing people to take leaps of faith to get by, including huge career changes. I'll probably take a welding course again next Spring & get a certification so I can get out of office jobs. I'm sick of working in the corporate world.

I've allowed too many things in life to block me from doing what I really wanted to do (from about age 8) and now I'm nearing 50 and no closer to seeing my dreams become a reality.

If this is a dream of yours, follow it while you still can.

What do you want to do with it, ultimately? Social work? Would you pursue a Phd and work to become a psychiatrist? Psychology is what I originally majored in and I ended up switching because I knew that I wouldn't have to patience to work other people through their problems the way a psychologist would. It's an emotionally taxing field to get into, but if you think that it's what you really want to do, then I'd say go for it. These days, it's pretty common for people to change careers at least once. I've been thinking about it myself.

Do you have any experience with psychology, or any credits towards it, or would you be starting from scratch?

Actually I would be starting from scratch. But I have always been very interested in the field and I really think therapy would be something I would really enjoy doing. Helping people seems to be a calling for me so why not get paid for it! lol
But alternately, I would also look into criminal psych, maybe be a profiler or something. That would be friggin cool.
