Dedicated Foci: "work theme/the Song" - the first song the Muse inspired in him, a drum-n-bass track with violins and cellos, almost melancholy, but with an undercurrent of hope to it. the full track is about ten minutes long, and he's done (and had done for him) a number of remixes, which range from about 4 to 15 minutes. in mp3 format, with multiple cd backups, a cassette, and a vinyl backup. (just in case, not that he's ever going to forget The Song)

(forgive the rushed appearance. i'm writing down things as they come to me. i'll get a cleaner bg soon. i promise!)

Nate grew up in middle-class America, and like many middle-class American teens, he grew bored with life in the suburbs. Nate found out about techno from a friend, and started sneaking off on weekends to go to dance parties. Soon he became a regular in the local club scene. He started promoting parties for friends, handing out flyers and the like, and soon graduated to organizing his own parties. He has a small group of fellow organizers, DJs, and sound- and light-technicians, collectively known as dance.dream productions, that he regularly uses.

Like many of his peers in the club scene, Nathan has used drugs, but, unlike many of them, doesn't really care for them. "The music's the only drug I need," he's fond of telling dealers. This didn't stop him from learning to recognize the signs of overdosing and abuse in other people, and he's become quite good at giving first aid at parties, and helping to calm down people who start 'freaking out'. that this has recently started involving spirits is unknown to just about everybody.

Every so often, though, something happens to Nathan that opens a door in his soul (metaphorically speaking) - he can't seem to put enough substances in his body. he'll go on three- to five-day drug and alcohol binges (only once did he go 7 days, and that was during his Awakening) and wake up exhausted with little memory of what happened. there's usually an infectious beat or melody structure in his head when he wakes up, though, and he immediately goes to his computer to transfer it to music that other people can hear. During one of these trips, Nathan took another trip, a trip into himself. He saw who he was, what he was truly capable of, and he made a choice - to become a conduit for the spiritual world. To guide him in his new life, he was introduced to a spirit he calls "my Muse." the spirit takes the form of particularly appropriate music, which usually prods Nathan in the right direction. In recent weeks, the spirit has often taken the form of a beautiful ethereal female that only he can see, with short spiky silver hair, who sometimes leads him 'where he needs to be,' and sometimes seems to lead him aimlessly around the city. It's these walks that confuse Nathan, because it seems to him that the Muse is searching for something, but he can't quite understand what, and she hasn't seen fit to tell him yet.
[read: plot hook for the ST! aren't i nice? :)]

Nathan is definitely not a typical shaman. He communes with the city-spirits that inhabit the clubs and underground party scenes. He fights the addiction- and depression-spirits that cling to the club-goers who succumb to the drugs that circulate the parties. He strengthens the joy- and music-spirits that congregate on weekends in the midst of happy ravers and clubbers out for a good time. He's made a decent living for himself by organizing and promoting raves (and techno-nights for clubs), and sometimes takes months to plan a party with the dance.dream 'crew'. Lately, he's been looking for just the right theme for the next big party to hit the area.

so, does it work?
