I'm still in Seattle (yay!) and will be returning tomorrow evening (yay!). Although tomorrow I will be relieved to be home again, where I can relax, I've been enjoying Seattle immensely and am already feeling a little homesick for it when I think of going back to Arizona. Oh well, paid vacations don't last forever, I'm very thankful I've been ( Read more... )

aww, i'm sad you didn't enjoy the sci-fi museum. the jim henson exhibit is kind of cool, i thought-particularly the dark crystal stuff. i just thought it the stuff of it was beautiful. there's no substitute for real things. obviously, it's still all artifice, but it's interesting that that was an age where fantasy still had to have some foundation in reality and i wonder what it's like growing up with an imagination full of things entirely created by computers.

i felt the same way about some of the other stuff, too, like the model of the death star and the tree of life from the fountain.

anyway, i'm sad i missed you and steef while you were here. say hi to him for me.

I didn't even see the "Dark Crystal" stuff there. Phooey. I liked the sci-fi museum well enough, but... meh, it was sort of passive, and I think I would have gotten more out of both it and EMP if there'd been more time to go through it all. It's cool to see everything that's on display, but to really get much out of it other than a moment of recognition or confusion, one kind of needs time to read all the little blurbs. I have to admit, though.... I REALLY wish they would print out a list of all the books and movies that were referenced---mostly the books---and the commentary that went with each one, for my later reference. ;)

Ahhhhh, "The Fountain". THAT'S the name of that blasted movie! I saw the damn tree and could not for the life of me recall the name of the movie and it was seriously driving me nuts the entire time I was at the museum.

yeah, i'm not a huge fan of the emp and actually i ran through the sci-fi museum really quickly right as they were closing. i went with a big jim henson fan specifically for the henson exhibit and so the actual sci-fi museum was sort of an afterthought. don't think i'd enjoy spending a lot of time there, but there were enough cool things there like deckard's gun from blade runner that i would say it was a very enjoyable five minutes of my life.

Nod, the various pieces from Bladerunner they had on exhibition amused me. Like the costume worn by the lead android lady whose name I can't remember. Happiness. :)

YAY FOR MY BROTHER!! I'm glad you got to see him! and gesture conversations with steef. and if you mean the sort of valley-girl mall, it's actually called west lake. west wood would be far too much of a respectable name...i don't know why. Did you go down a block to Pacific Place mall? that's the fancy rich people's mall.

We didn't get to Pacific Place, no. We might try if we get down to Downtown early enough to stomp around a little more before catching the 194/174 to the airpr0t.

Ah yes, I mean West Lake mall. Strange... I actually wasn't sure Weestwood was the right name, so I googled it to find out and typing "Westwood Mall" into Google, amusingly enough, gives you the option of searching for "Westwood Mall Seattle".

Google Fail. Apparently it IS an art.

We were able to check out Ravenna, which was awesome and belongs on the WOOT portion of the list. We wanted to go to Discovery Park but ran out of time. I have not heard of these Golden Gardens.
