The Dixie Chicks can still piss me off

My weakness has always been how easy it is to get to me emotionally. Listener just called me out for playing a Dixie Chicks song. So I told her how the veterans changed my mind about boycotting the chicks right after their debacle by explaining that my NOT playing their music was akin to telling him he fought a war for nothing. Dixie Chicks: I've been saying the same thing for 3 years. Country radio shot its credibility in the foot with that little stunt. Telling the world that freedom of speech only applies if you agree with me! Dissenting opinions get no airtime! Why do you hate freedom! That kind of tripe.

But always remember, you never win an argument with a listener. Its best to just say "Thanks for your opinion and thanks for listening." and hang up.

Radios relationship has changed a great deal in the last 10 years. Prior to about '98 I cant remember a show that I didnt go back and meet the artist. These days its all about the retailers. When I had the record store, even though I sold very few new releases I always had 2 or 3 pairs of tix for any show that came through the area. Sometimes I'd get tix the radio stations couldnt get! In '03 tix for the ABQ Ozzfest were like gold. Rock 106 couldnt get any. I traded my 2 pair for a free remote. Folks came to the store to sign up. It was one of the few months that I actually turned a profit ( ... )

Man, I'm smacking myself in the forehead right now.

How can I keep on forgetting the cardinal rules of broadcasting? THANK YOU for being my Program Director. I've been bitten on the phones several times over the years here and now realize why: I'd forgotten the rules! Same thing as "The customer is always right."

how could I forget that?

As for the car, Christine says I have to give it to her when I win. But that's cool, I'm sure she'd be happy to drive us to NM in it!
