Radios relationship has changed a great deal in the last 10 years. Prior to about '98 I cant remember a show that I didnt go back and meet the artist. These days its all about the retailers. When I had the record store, even though I sold very few new releases I always had 2 or 3 pairs of tix for any show that came through the area. Sometimes I'd get tix the radio stations couldnt get! In '03 tix for the ABQ Ozzfest were like gold. Rock 106 couldnt get any. I traded my 2 pair for a free remote. Folks came to the store to sign up. Man, I'm smacking myself in the forehead right now.
How can I keep on forgetting the cardinal rules of broadcasting? THANK YOU for being my Program Director. I've been bitten on the phones several times over the years here and now realize why: I'd forgotten the rules! Same thing as "The customer is always right."
