Saw the billboard thing on a radio message board awhile back. The general consensus was that Channel 10 must have been desperate for news that day. I dont think there was a single positive comment on the newsworthiness of a billboard. Havent seen the Trib article but they were always in 'THIs pocket anyway, so I'm not surprised.

Wish someone could run some tape on the station so I could hear it. I suppose I should check out their website and see if theyre streaming. When I started putting this format together in my head at least 10 years ago John and I thought it would be too radical for anyone to take a chance on. Stations like the Crock dont do the format any favors.

Ted Nugent warned us in February that fans of the Bon Jovi's of the world were keeping up with the George Joneses, and vice versa. The Motor City Madman came to Hulman Center and shared a concert bill with political pal Toby Keith that month. And, in his own poignant way, Uncle Ted insisted that wasn't completely weird ( ... )

Now David, do you remember what I said about the Toby Keith/Ted Nugent show? That sold out crowd was there to see TOBY and they were rude as HELL to Ted!

So some idiot's answer is to take a concept that didn't even work in concert and tailor A RADIO STATION that way?

Puhleeeeeeze. :-D

I do remember. We talked a lot about that show and how the folks didnt much care for Ted.

And they get a fount of radio programming experience like Dave Sabaini to validate it? Boy, theyre pulling out all the stops arent they? Just proving my point for me. Crossroads is a bush-league company run by bush-league people. Theres nothing cutting edge about what theyre doing. And that b.s. about getting rid of satellite jocks and hiring local people? Nice sentiment, but when the ratings dont come in and the station isnt making any money, do you think they will fire the sales staff or the jocks? I wonder...

You just hit my most sensitive nerve. Our sales staff can't sell, but does the company fire the GM who hasn't been able to put a successful sales staff together in A DECADE? No, they fire yet ANOTHER airstaff member. Don't get me started.

Sabaini's still running the communications dept. at ISU, or at least I think that's what he's doing...hence getting his comments. But you'll be tickled to know our reaction to them asking HIM was exactly the same as yours.

Oh and I have to say....what YOU were going to do with this concept is a killer idea...and it's a real shame Crossroads hasn't got a clue.

Sweetie, I cant tell you how badly I've wanted to try this for many years. Terre Haute is ripe for it and done right, it might not BEAT HI-99, (I'd never be so arrogant as to think I could knock off a long-time market leader so easily) but it might eat into them enough for another station to slip into #1. I could see it slicing The River's #s in half easily. I'd love to see this done right somewhere. Maybe the Paris station?

Then again, T.H. is kind of a radio enigma. Very much creatures of habit. More than any market I've ever worked in. Maybe its true that HI-99 just CANT be beaten. I'd like to think otherwise, but how long have they been on top? At least since the late-80s.
