I didn't really take any pictures from my Fall 2010 finished pieces. I really dislike photographing my work, but it has to be done. Meanwhile, here are some shots of a set of my Cave Flowers in place, a quickie vase that I threw for Jason, and the my current projects that I'm working on.
This is the first of my fired cave flowers. I have two more out of the kiln that I need to place somewhere. They just haven't found a home. I'm realizing that without my own kiln, 999 of these is a whole lot. It's supposed to be a lifetime project, though, so I should have some time.
A quickie vase I threw for Jason. This is part of the forms I'm working on for the canopic series I'm doing later this semester.
My first series assignment is for platters. This is the greenware of a plate that I'm testing my surface treatment on. The gears are slip cast from my background mold that I use for my wall series. The leaves are carved in and then filled with a green slip (I'm doing actual mashima on the latest one), and the all green leaves are handbuilt. My platters are of a pretty good size. I'm been playing with using coils to throw rims on them, but I'm having some issues with the compression. I may not be able to do that technique in this series. We'll see.
Greenware for my next wall piece, continuing a sculpture series from last semester. Combination of slip casting and handbuilding. I just finished the worlds most complicated glaze job on this, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
It's hard to explain what's going on with this one. It actually belongs with my assemblage boxes, as it is a dream piece. The interior is a villiage surrounded by mountains that are going to be low-fired in bright colors. The figure is going to be high-fired and glazed. The mask is porcelain, and will be high fired with the addition of some black engobe details.
