Vote Healy!

I was talking to my mom on the phone and she brought up voting for mayor.
Mom: I'm voting for Healy.
Me: What?! Me too!
Mom: Oh my word!
Me: I'm putting this on the calendar.
Mom: You should. I can't believe we're voting for the same person.

This has never happened before.

silly, family

Hell would absolutely freeze over before my parents and I voted the same I think. There is only one issue that we actually agree on, and even then we have different thoughts on it that just barely happen to be mostly on the same side. It's kinda scary. I try to avoid politics w/ them as much as possible. Oh you should've been around in October/November 2008. The shit hit the fan so colorfully. Instituting a policy of never talking politics w/ them again, methinks.

The one issue we agree on is recycling/environmental issues. Those just happened to be the only issues on the table for this election. Usually we don't talk about politics at all.

We just avoided the whole topic during the presidential elections. Luckily, we don't do a lot of yelling in our family. She just looks very dissappointed to have birthed a liberal. Did your family try to change your mind?

My family tried VERY hard to change my mind... with flawed logic and personal attacks. It got ugly for a while. Now, I see the political drivel from them hit my inbox, and I childishly hit delete before I ever even read it. It's not worth the drama. They find my opinions invalid and worthless, I find theirs paranoid and narrow minded. There's really no common ground, other than our interpretations of the 2nd Ammendment.
