there isn't a win by popular vote. there is a win by popular vote within states having more electoral votes than others.
Oh I know that. Most states, except two (Maine and Nebraska?), the electoral college votes go to whoever wins the popular vote. I mean yay for the people getting a say but how much of a say is it when people aren't making informed decisions? That's my gripe. Why bother having the popular vote if people aren't even bothering to know why they are voting for Candidate X?
i am so grateful i do not have a television or a radio so i am not being inundated with ads and other nonsense.
from what little i do see of political propoganda it seems to me too little focus is being made on issues and problem solving and more is on name calling and fearmongering. seriously, do politicians think the populace is too stupid to understand anything but schoolyard tactics?
i think that the internet as a source of fact checking is going to continue to play a large role in this election and future ones.
Personally I am tired of politics and politicians. I'd be happy if we got rid of political parties and were able to choose on something other than affiliation (political or religious as this one seems to be going). I also think it is rediculous that a person cannot really run and hope to win unless they have an incredibly large bank account/donations backing them.
I do not know who I am voting for, other than it won't be either of the two main candidates. And as for Palin. Send her back to Alaska...please. And hurry.
Actually, the whole reason the Electoral College was established was because the founding fathers had little faith in the masses being wise enough to vote in their own best interest. They had seen the power of demagoguery throughout the process of the Revolution and knew how the mob would react and took measures to counter it.
Unfortunately some of those people think their reasons are "right" Both my parents hold the faith of the candidate as a very high point of importance. Ive been given alot of shit by them for not agreeing on mccain or palin.
Okay, now that you phrase it that way, I'd have to say categorically no. That happens to be because I'm a firm believer that the right to vote should be earned and is not something that should simply be granted

Ah, okay, this was what I was looking for. Thank you! I'm curious what a McCain supporter will say about McCain.
I agree about the Clinton economics. He succeeded in that aspect and bringing some of those smarts back now would be a good thing seeing how in-the-red we are after this bailout.
And one of the big factors that I wouldn't vote for McCain is how he wants to continue along in Iraq. But there's also the issue of what would happen if we pulled out now. =/ It is arguable about whether it would be good or bad.
I agree about his temperment. McCain does not seem like someone who has a lot of patience...after all, he is a "maverick". :P And I have to say his health is a concern and with Palin as a running mate....eeeesh. He made a very bad move...and his reasons were very transparent. Yes, it was purely for getting votes but then again, this is politics.

there have been four elections in history where the candidate with the most popular votes lost to the electoral college.
