Going digital

O.k up until now i've been very anti going all digital with regards to music. But i have somewhat changed my mind ( Read more... )

Disadvantages include:
  • the lack of packaging/album artwork/etc. (which some people think is part of the magic).
  • What happens if your hard drive dies and you lose the files ? I think iTunes will let you re-download but others (Amazon MP3 store) does not appear to let you do this. This can end up with you burning backups to CD.

I'm sure there's others but they are the only two that come to mind.

Keep a back-up. Keep two.

From personal experience (with a case left in the back of a taxi), this also applies to CD format.

From someone who who used to be a bit of a collector, digital music has re-focused me on what's important - the music, not the physical medium.
