It was great to see you at LDI. It was nice to meet your "filthy assistant" as well. Next time we'll have to hang out some more. I got swept up in a lot of the ol' booze and schmooze.
I know I love dogging on the Pearl, or any "beastly fader desk" as my buddy Robb calls them, but I guess it has a place. (aside from propping doors open)
Definitely hit up Tara at ACT from some of that free MA training, and you can play with our hog wings whenever they are around. Word on the street is that they are finally going to start adding more features to the Hog3 OS, now that stability is better. (I'll believe it when I see it).
A: Glad we got a few minutes to catch up and hang. Thanks again for being a steady source of good advice!
B: I am not particularly enamoured of fader-festooned consoles (for instance the Diamond is just like its namesake: tacky and excessive), which is why the Pearl Tiger intrigues me. It's a Pearl under the hood, just less on the dashboard so to speak. I do like having the handles there for my dimmer channels, so I can grab conventionals and slap up a look quickly like I'm used to from working on the Troc's house Leprecon board, but having ten playbacks feels a lot more like a Hog or a Micro. And like a Hog, I can add some more playbacks with the expansion wing.
Keep in mind I'm still pretty new at this and I'm mostly just doing rock shows and the occassional dance party. :-)
C: What sorts of features?
D: I want to hit NYC after Turkey-day. Maybe the week following. You gonna be around?
She and I had been discussing doing something along the lines of Dave & Buster's, though we might be better off looking into something a little smaller and more affordable for everyone.
I'll go do the training and see how I feel afterward. I have to admit to feeling a bit intimidated by the amount of shit the GrandMA does, and the manner in which it does so... Keep in mind you're talking to someone whose entire 4-year lighting career has been spent running cheap fader-based controllers (Martin FREEKIE, etc) and Light Jockey
( ... )
