I still can't believe they put her on the fourth floor, Severus thought to himself as he made his way uneasily past the receptionist's desk, grateful that his little diversion had worked to get her out of the room. Considering it was way past visiting hours, and he was only a trainee healer, he didn't think they'd let him actually visit people after hours like this. He didn't have the clearance to do that yet. Soon, though - that was neither here nor there, though, he had to get up to Lily's room and see if the Healers had been able to figure out the spells that had been used on her.
... Well, at least this time he didn't look like a drowned rat. It had been something of an awkward conversation with the receptionist and healer in charge when he'd rushed her in, especially since he'd had (and STILL had) no idea why she'd ended up unconscious in HIS flat and showing signs of magical damage. Really, she was with Potter now and OBVIOUSLY not speaking to HIM, who the hell had paid enough attention to him to know that having something like this happen would upset him so much? And were they trying to frame him? He was just making his way to the stairwell when he heard his name being called.
"Fuck," he swore under his breath, turning to face the older man, looking up at him slightly through his hair, shoulders hunching as if he expected to be berated for something.
"Severus, what are you doing here after hours?" Smethwyk demanded as he walked quickly to where Severus stood, a shief of parchment in one hand and a look of annoyance on his face. "If you are looking for your friend from earlier, I'm afraid you can't see her at the moment, the healers working on her found a nasty little curse that tried to asphyxiate the poor girl when they tried to take it off her. They're only now finishing working out the rest of the... surprises that were left."
"What? It's that bad?" Severus exclaimed, straightening up now and staring at the man, trying not to let on how worried that information made him. "It took them three HOURS to fix it?"
"Yes, it did, and I'd like for you to come with me, actually, I have a few questions to - Mr. Snape, come back here immediately!" Smethwyk's voice trailed off rapidly behind him as Severus sprinted to the stairwell, making it up the stairs in record time. He was rather out of breath once he got to the right floor, but that didn't stop him from running down the hall and bursting into Lily's room, startling the two healers who were just now finishing up with her. The two exchanged glances at the sight of Severus, disheveled and out of breath, bearing down on them, and without even thinking about it, they stepped out of his way, watching closely when he lurched to a stop next to her bedside.
What the hell happened to you, Lily? he thought to himself as he leaned over the side of her bed, propping himself up and trying to breathe through the stitch in his side. At least she was sleeping - hell, at least she looked a little better than she had when he'd first brought her in. "Will she be all right?" he asked quietly once he'd finally caught his breath.
It was no surprise when Smethwyk's angry voice answered him. It looked like it was going to be a long night, and he hadn't even done anything wrong this time.
