without having read any of yer cited chapters--is this kinda a variation of the whole provisional visibility for political efficacy debate, in identity studies? Like, to have agency in x-space you have to be somehow visible as a subject in that space, which inevitably pigeonholes you and subjects you to someone else's construction of yerself? Kinda Gayatri Spivak "Can the Subaltern Speak?" territory? Or no?
