The REAL message behind this scripture anonymous September 2 2009, 02:43:18 UTC
The real message in this section of the letter can be found in Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
The law of how husbands and wives should treat each other is secondary to that and isn't really a law at all but just a platform from which to establish the relationship between Christ and the church. This scripture also seems to confirm the church as the bride of Christ.

Also, all husbands who have a mentality that they should be served and that the wife should submit, consider the Jesus model. He says we should love as Jesus loved the church and even died for her. To really love your wife means to understand that you are the leader but become the greater servant, like how Jesus did everything He could for us, even dying for her benefit.

My wife never has a hard time fulfilling her role as a wife when I am fulfilling my role as as loving leader in humillity. When i start getting lazy or grumpy.. that's when we have problems. ;)

I agree that the man lays down his life for his wife but God intended her to be a help to him, not an idle to be worshiped which so many men do sometimes because if they don't the WIFE gets grumpy. It's definitely a two way street and if done correctly will give new revelation for how the church should model her relationship with God. We our his hands on this earth...not because he needs us to be but because he wants us to be a part of what he's doing and enjoys our company and participation in his workings.
