I don't know... it seems that when games like that use parallex, they exaggerate the perspective or depth too much.

I may just be picky, but something between the two would be perfect for me.

Yet, they both look amazing to me.

pretty much every games uses it on eveything now because with parallax mapping,
basicly, the more depth you add to it the smaller amout of angles and situations it looks good on. Thats why parallax mapping is pretty much exclusivly used on brick and walls and never people or anything else.

for plain normal mapping see doom3, halo1/2, riddick,CoD2(sorry) and anything in oblivion not parallax mapped that still looks bumpy.
