Sorry to hear about the holiday. You are going for the PhD??? At Waterloo? Tell me all about it! That's a pretty significant change in your view since the last time I heard about it. Jim is kind of at the crossroads of trying to figure out whether to do a master's after undergrad, a PhD, or work. If he went to grad school, it would probably be in statistics, but he's only recently started thinking grad school might be something he'd like, and so who knows really. I was actually going to ask you -- do you think you might have any advice for him, having known a lot of people who did various mathy master's and seen a lot of people start mathy PhDs as well? I think back in Berkeley I have a phone card that calls to Canada, so I could put you guys in touch that way if that'd be okay with you.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to do it, even if I get the funding. I suppose I should have written "deciding whether to do a PhD" instead. :) There may be other significant life events to take into consideration as well...
You can give him my email address if that works better. I don't really know that much actually, but I'd be happy to help if I can.
Good luck with the funding, and the deciding. Yay craft projects! Sorry to hear Snuggles is under the weather... tell him to get well soon. OR ELSE...!
