hey guys!! i know kj66 is quite up to speed with tech stuff, but i know there's a few more of you folks out there who can help me out with this question

I'm not sure about DuoCore Processor because I don't do gaming.
I recently bought an ASUS laptop and I love it. I love the functionality of it and what not. The price was under $500.
Intel® Pentium® • Processor Speed 2.2GHz • Battery Type 6-cell lithium-ion • Display Type High-definition widescreen LED-backlit TFT-LCD • Screen Size (Measured Diagonally) 15.6" • System Bus 800MHz • Cache Memory 1MB on die Level 2 • System Memory (RAM) 3GB • System Memory (RAM) Expandable To 4GB • Type of Memory (RAM) DDR2 • Hard Drive Type SATA (5400 rpm) • Computer Hard Drive Size 320GB • Optical Drive Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW • Optical Drive Speeds Drive speeds not specified • Direct-Disc Labeling No • Digital Media Reader or Slots Yes, digital media card reader • Graphics Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M
thanks Frank! that's pretty much the general configuration of the systems i've been browsing. the major differences in hardware (and price) are the video cards....the GMA 4500Ms are decent, but i've noticed that none of the games made in the last year and the upcoming ones are unsupported by that for whatever strange reason. i think i may just spring for the souped-up version, it's pricier, but i dont intend on buying any other comps the next few years, and it's high time that i replaced my desktop anyway.
oh, and the laptop at Best Buy i can get for no interest in 18 months as long as i pay it off by then. that's a lot less painful than coughing up the 3 digit pricetag at once

Your tech advisers have more knowledgeable advice, but I've always had a strong bias: faster chips (Dual Core too), more memory.
Disc space? Does the artist (and I remember that you're an artist) use space a lot? If so, buy the bigger disc--er, hard disc--er, storage...
(I can tell a funny story about a former boss, if you're ever interested. Talk about Freudian Slips...)
Hope you're well.
