Your tech advisers have more knowledgeable advice, but I've always had a strong bias: faster chips (Dual Core too), more memory.

Disc space? Does the artist (and I remember that you're an artist) use space a lot? If so, buy the bigger disc--er, hard disc--er, storage...

(I can tell a funny story about a former boss, if you're ever interested. Talk about Freudian Slips...)

Hope you're well.

haha, thanks for tryin tho! the disc storage shouldn't be an issue, with the gigs in the hundreds level, it should be ok.

yes, do tell me about the freudian slip and the former boss. btw, what dept of the library did you used to work at? my current boss is Dennis

I'm not sure about DuoCore Processor because I don't do gaming.

I recently bought an ASUS laptop and I love it. I love the functionality of it and what not. The price was under $500.

thanks Frank! that's pretty much the general configuration of the systems i've been browsing. the major differences in hardware (and price) are the video cards....the GMA 4500Ms are decent, but i've noticed that none of the games made in the last year and the upcoming ones are unsupported by that for whatever strange reason.
i think i may just spring for the souped-up version, it's pricier, but i dont intend on buying any other comps the next few years, and it's high time that i replaced my desktop anyway.

oh, and the laptop at Best Buy i can get for no interest in 18 months as long as i pay it off by then. that's a lot less painful than coughing up the 3 digit pricetag at once
