After the events related here, my mother decided to take my advice and put the cats in the bathroom... which is as large as a small bedroom, because the house is old, and my grandmother knocked out a wall to a storage closet years ago to expand it... whenever she needed to leave the house, or, ( Read more... )

I am starting to answer the phone with "What did she do now?" instead of "Hello".

Other possibility: due to the expanded bathroom, there's a hole or small opening the cat can squeeze through to travel to another part of the house.

It's pretty solid. The remodeling was done long enough ago that the walls are plaster and lathe over tile, not sheetrock, two sides of the bathroom are outside walls, one wall is shared with a bedroom (that's been shut up and filled with far more interesting junk than the Sacred Living Room for many, many years) and the fourth wall opens up on to a hallway. That fourth wall is the one with the door, and there's not much space on either side of it.

There is the possibility that the other cat shut the bathroom door after Taz made her escape, to get a few minutes of peace and quiet. ;-)
