Code Name JJ0126 (Chapter 2)

Jaejoong scanned his surrounding briefly, his icy eyes confirming the suitable hiding place that he had decided on earlier while his hands busied themselves with his jet black Beretta 92FS Elite I by putting on the gun suppressor with skilled and trained movements. This very beautiful lady - that was what Jaejoong referred his handgun as - had been following him ever since he first started out as an assassin and somehow, the raven haired man had adopted a special affection towards her after so many years of partnership. Yes, he loved his handgun. Nothing to do with weird fetishes but he simply adored the jet black, light and handy, slimly designed semiautomatic pistol, which was truly a beauty in his eyes. And a very loyal one at that.

Stuffing the handgun into his inner coat pocket as soon as he was done with the silencer, Jaejoong collected all the scattered papers, occasionally rumpling a couple of them, and stuffed all of those crucial information sheets into the compartment beside the driver seat, not wanting to risk a thing. The grey scarf was pulled higher to hide his lower half face and Jaejoong turned off his car engine, locking the compartment as an afterthought before he finally went out of his car, trying not to gain any attention - a thing which he was failing at with his lean built and long legs betraying him, catching the eyes of young females. Plus, his brand new Honda Accord - although not being his best ride - was worsening the whole situation. Damn.

The black haired man cringed a little when the soft but high pitched gasping of “Oh, he’s so handsome!” reached his perked ears, making him stifled a grunt of annoyance and a glare of irritation. This was one of the reasons why he hated to appear in public, because people would hunt him down. And that was not even because of his job as an assassin but it was simply because of his good looks. Being that good looking was a burden for him and for his job especially.

But at least he was lucky. Current round unfortunate prey of his seemed to remain oblivious despite the minor commotion he had caused around the university entrance. The sequel of things that he needed to do now was simply to get away from the crowd, get to his planned hiding place, pick out a suitable time, fire and he was done.

Sorry, it’s my job.

Surprisingly, the flash of thought and guilt came to him - something which he had not experienced for years ever since he got used to taking people’s lives. But, it did not really matter anymore. He was too numb for guilt, his hands were too bloody for reprisal. It did not matter anymore. Really.

Make the kill and I’m done here. Stop thinking.

“Hyung, look,” Changmin hushed whisper which did not sound playful like usual instantly caught the full attention of his friends, effectively stopping the playful bantering among them. Silently, the youngest but tallest among the four tipped his strong chin at the top of the engineering building and a round of whispered curses immediately rang out when all of them saw the man - clad in full black and armed with a sniper - hiding on top of the building just right next to them. It was out of pure luck that they were able to spot the man due to the fact that they were standing at the outsides of the second floor. If they happened to be on the ground floor, they would not have seen a thing no matter how good they were.

“Is that a Parker Hale M85? Wow! I want one!” the slightly high pitched excited whisper that followed up closely broke the tense atmosphere among the four with little surprise - as they were actually expecting this - and poor Junsu instantly became the receiving end of various degrees death glare. With Yoochun’s glare being the kindest, or as kind as a glare could be, Changmin’s glare being the sharpest and Yunho’s glare being as menacing as ever. Pouting, he faked a whine at them which was of course, ignored.

“That is NOT the point, Junsu,” repressing the compelling need to head desk, Yunho whispered back in annoyance, or more like helplessness, before he continued his sentence with a slight frown, “Who is he aiming for? I don’t think it’s us this time.”

“But aside from us, who else in the uni is worth killing?” Yoochun answered Yunho’s question with another question of his own since he was not able to think of any candidates that could be listed as worth-killing. It was only the four of them, always the four of them. And they were not particularly new with this either. So who on earth could it be? It seemed that the sniper was really aiming for somebody else this time around.

“He’s aiming at the university entrance but I see no one suspicious,” Changmin was the one who ended the periodical silence after he looked at their surroundings briefly and analysed the people that shuffled in and out of the university area. He was pretty proud of his observation skills but he really did not spot anyone suspicious and that unnerved him a little.

“I can’t spot anyone too,” frowning, Yoochun ignored the giggling human pile glued to his side as he too, scanned his surroundings briefly in a swift manner. He was planning to have a second look but an extra loud giggle that rang out beside of him effectively stopped his plan.

Leaning closer to his personal heater, Junsu giggled more until it broke off to a full blown laugh before he finally pointed a finger at a certain direction and said happily, “You guys are so slow!”

“That is a corner you’re pointing at, Junsu-hyung. We can’t see a thing from here,” a sarcastic comment from Changmin, as expected.

“Look at the girls,” and Junsu returned it with a comment of his own, sounding smug.

“Yeah, you’re right, there must be someone… Shit! WATCH OUT!” Yunho soft mumbling of agreement became a full blown yell as soon as he saw a man clad in a long black coat slowly walked out of the corner, further and further away from the safe blind spot. The man was the target. He knew. And it definitely did not take a genius to realise that the sniper was now aiming for the man, with his gun lowered, body crouched low and all. Without wasting his time on more thinking, Yunho leaped down of the building as he rushed towards the said man, noting that his yell must had alerted a lot of people, including the target. And it was an advantage.

It might not be too late for him to save the person.

-----

Jaejoong was startled by the yell to say the least. For some reason, he knew that the yell was directed at him and his mind told him that it was not a very smart move to pull out his gun and fire when everyone was looking at his prey who had just yelled on top of his lungs. Plus, what was the thing that he should watch out for?

“RUN!”

Another yell. And Jaejoong realised. Sniper, on the building behind him. Had to run.

Instinctively, Jaejoong started to sprint, running in a zigzag pattern as he aimed for his original hiding place which happened to be a blind spot for the sniper. He would be safe as long as he got there but he was not exactly lucky when he heard a very faint gunshot from afar and felt a pain, a white hot burning pain that shot up his spine and forcefully wrenched a pained grunt from his throat. A bullet had shot past his thigh.

Pain. So much pain.

He heard screams, and he knew those were not his. Grunting, Jaejoong took advantage of the chaotic situation as he tried to pull himself back up despite his injured leg, knowing that he needed to get to the safe spot as soon as possible. Too bad, he had no such luck. Cursing quietly, Jaejoong took a deep breath as he tried to stand once again with much effort, sighing a little when he almost succeeded. However, his slightly fruiting effort was diminished right at the moment his prey leaped towards him and pushed him back down to the dirty ground, leaning on top of him with a heaving chest and a sweaty body. Another shot was heard immediately after, and the bullet planted right beside him making a small hole on the dirty road. He shuddered involuntarily.

“Don’t struggle,” a soft but urgent demand breathed across his ear and Jaejoong stiffened up, muscle tensed and breathing short, when he felt a pair of warm hands lifted him up and made a run back to his hiding place. The pain on his thigh was making his vision blurry, or perhaps it was simply because of his eyes were watering, and he wildly guessed that the shot must had injured some major blood vessels for the blood to be flowing like a river. Vaguely, he thought that his prey was surprisingly strong for being able to carry him and run with that kind of speed, as if he was weightless. But, his mind was too foggy to cooperate and make out the reason why his prey was this strong.

“Are you alright?!” Jaejoong could faintly hear the worried voice ringing beside him but he simply could not muster the strength to give a proper answer, the pain was making everything too hard for him - including batting away the hands that were shaking his shoulder insistently. So, he chose to nod and grunt softly instead before he succumbed to the pain and allowed himself to lose consciousness, not wanting to bear the pain any longer.

-----

“How’s he?”

“Are you crazy?”

“He’s pretty!”

The simultaneous comments rang out all at once right after the trio reached his side and Yunho only deemed one of them useful - Yoochun’s one was. So he answered only that.

“He got shot on his thigh, passed out from the pain I guess. We’ll take him to the hospital,” ignoring the other two, Yunho fished around his pockets and threw a key at Yoochun, signalling that his friend would be the one to drive. Nodding, Yoochun ran in full speed towards the student parking site with not much difficulty - since everyone escaped after they heard the gun shot - and proceeded to search for Yunho’s car, not wasting any precious time.

“We’ll go in another car. See you in the hospital,” Changmin who had finally calmed down a little regained his usual composed self and said emotionlessly. Without anymore words, he dragged Junsu by the arm and both of them left for the student parking area as well, leaving Yunho pretty much alone at the empty university entrance.

“Junsu was right. He IS really pretty for a guy,” swiping the messy strands of ebony hair away from the pale forehead, Yunho took a closer look at the guy he had just saved as he mused in silence. The thick lashes, although straight but still too long for a man, the flawless pale skin that glistened a little because of perspiration, a sharp pointy nose and a pair of full pink lips which revealed themselves under the scarf - the man in his arms undoubtedly owned a face which could easily pass as a woman, a very beautiful woman. His features looked so dainty and feminine except for the broader jaw showing that the man was indeed a male, and not a female. Yunho could not help but to stare. Too beautiful.

A sudden honk startled Yunho out of his own musing and he raised his head just in time to see Yoochun opening the backseat door for him. Once again, he lifted the man effortlessly as he moved in to the backseat of his car and closed the car door none too gently, not caring even if the seeping blood slowly stained his car seat.

“Let’s go.”
