Now, as most of you know, I am no radical animal lover. I have often said that I disapprove of PETA and their methods, and still do in many cases, but now I'm not so sure. I just spent the last half hour making myself look at photos and videos of animal cruelty, and y'know what? After about five minutes I found myself bawling like a little baby. I ( Read more... )

The problem is that there is just no substitute for animal testing. It's ugly, for sure, but the alternatives are arguably much worse.

it's just depressing, the hierarchy...animals have no control over what occurs to them in those situations, we humans have all the power -- would we test ourselves when we have another supposedly "lesser" option? of course not. we're selfish creatures. as long as we don't see mice, dogs and monkeys as our equals, we will continue to maim and slaughter them. it's absolutely horrifying. i could never let myself look at pictures like that mostly because i know i wouldn't be able to sleep at night. maybe that's selfish of ME -- wanting to remain blissfully ignorant just so that i can function. but i guess that's my own survival tactic after awhile...

life is beautiful, but life can also be filled with terror.
