Dubya got it right...for once hita526 November 1 2005, 16:15:55 UTC
From washingtonpost.com:
"Theadministration plan, to be released in more detail on Wednesday, calls for more than stockpiling shots. It will stress a new method of manufacturing flu vaccines - growing the virus to make them in easy-to-handle cell cultures instead of today's cumbersome process that uses millions of chicken eggs - as well as incentives for new U.S.-based vaccine factories to open."

Just to balance things out, social conservatives are working hard to fuck up a different type of vaccine for no particular reason:

Oh man! First of all i didn't know they'd come up with a vacine for that...that's so awesome. From what I've read, HPV causes all sorts of nasty things besides cervical cancer if not treated, including scarring of the Fallopian tubes, resulting in loss of fertility. Abstinence education doesn't do much good then. And honestly, if this was an HIV vaccine, would they even hesitate? I don't think so...not only because HIV is necessarily fatal, but because it affects men too. Much like they saw AIDS as a curse for gay men in the 1980's, they see this as a curse for promiscuous women. If they would just see this from a scientific standpoint for what it is, the eradication of a ( ... )

Holy crap. I can't even begin to wrap my head around the stupidity of those people. You can protect people from a fatal disease almost infallibly, but you don't want to do it because it would encourage teenage sex? So, in other words, they'd prefer a dead girl to one that had sex before she's married.

Leviticus is bullshit, people! Get over it!
