A few days ago after Liddy was called up before Congress, I thought about delurking and doing a quick rant about the absurdity of beating up Liddy. Of course, by the time I actually had spare time at home to do it, I had moved to the 'why bother' phase. Catching up on the last comics shows that xkcd has my back at least on one of the points.

$165,000,000 = 1,000 subprime mortgages. With that money, we could have halted one thousand foreclosures, and the homeowners would still have to pay us the money back.

$165 million given as bonuses to the people that caused the mess in the first place would be just as infuriating as $165 thousand. Anything other than termination for cause will be unjust.

I knew it was a mistake to post.

As I understand the situation, Liddy was asked by us to take on this task, is not being paid to do so, and fulfilled a legal obligation of the company, wasting less than a tenth of a percent of the bailout money to do so.

Regardless of how stupid the contracts were, beating up Liddy seems just mean-spirited and mob-mentality. Which was my point.
