So because 8 people uploaded copies for distribution, they're not going to sell them anymore? Given that they're out of print, the effective value (and revenue) from the books has fallen to zero. So other than cutting off the legal supply of 3.x PDFs, what has WotC accomplished?
Don't worry, the PDFs will still be available. WotC just won't take your money now.
Edit: My bad, I just read the original article -- WotC claims the issue was over the 4E PHB2 being pirated. That doesn't explain the takedown of material from previous editions! Valve Software had a legal spokesperson with a great quote: "Pirates are just under-served customers." Now WotC just ditched all of their paying customers in the market.
