Thursday - whew!
Thursday started off like every day. I have to say again that the meals at this site are quite good. There is always plenty of choice. They have eggs most every day (one day we even had french toast!), oatmeal is abundant - real oatmeal, with cooked apples, and cold cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, you name it. Wednesday was surely a "strange" day. Having learned that Wednesdays are typically slower than Tuesdays, we were again asked to join JIMBO on a mission to pick up some paint that was being donated. Distribution Day at Camp Victor
Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays is distribution day at Camp Victor. They have case workers that individuals/families have to check in with to see if they qualify to receive supplemental support in the form of groceries or other products such as laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, or even bedding. Monday - getting started
First day - and at first I was set to work in the distribution center ("dc") all day to prepare for the distribution days (Tues - Thur) this week. We had started breaking down the boxes of supplies that our churches had brought down and put the items out where they belonged on the shelves. We arrived on Sunday evening, June 3 a bit later than we had hoped or expected. We had driven past our turn (having a hard time navigating streets and trying to find street signs that were worn with no names visible and the one we needed wasn't marked at all. T-minus 2 weeks and counting.
The days are getting shorter and shorter and I'm getting more excited (and anxious!) Fund-raising has gone well, although we are still just a little bit short of having enough to make sure we have everything covered. But I have faith it will all work out. SO - here it is. My first entry. So far I've only ever used an account here to read my brother's LJ, but thought I could put this to good use. Now I just have to learn how it works.
