Dune is a good book - I remember I really enjoyed it. The first couple of books that follow it are pretty good too. Beware of reading too many of the sequels though - there comes a point where they turned markedly shit and spoil the overall memory. Stick to the first 2 or 3 books, and you'll be fine.

It's odd, I've heard wildly diverse opinions on the sequels. Some say none of them are worth it. Another said all of them are worth it but the immediate sequel is the worst of the bunch. And now your advice.
