There, I mentioned it. I would agree that it is the best American John Woo movie.
But...
I would disagree that it is as good as A Better Tomorrow, though it beats the sequel out for sure. I think that the dialogue (and Nick Cage) in Face/Off turns me off . I know that it is supposed to be corny action movie dialogue (which it certainly succeeds at being), but corny action movie dialogue doesn't seem nearly as corny when it is in a language that I can't understand.
I can take corny dialogue from Travolta, who has the charisma to make it work, but I hate everything old Nick Coppola has been in but Raising Arizona, Matchstick Men and Adaptation, which all seem to not let the fact that Nicky is in them ruin the movie.
Sure, you could say that I am just being biased to Face/Off because of Nicholas Cage - and you would be right.
