So it's now official, we're leaving Dublin at the end of this month. I'll be taking up my new job in Galway city (also software development, telecommunucations-related). Finally reinstalled my ailing laptop. I should have done it ages ago - its performance has leaped by a factor of 10 since eliminating all the cruft. Now trying to remember what essential programs I should install. Also experimenting with using a non-admin account. So far I've had to setup the wireless network once for each account. Tedium.

Well, looks like work have pulled the interesting parts of internet access. You'd think there's some kind of master plan to make people work harder by denying access to a decent browser and/or RSS collector, my personal webmail account, and livejournal. Buying large or expensive items is a hassle. My current focus is on a replacement car, as the old one has become decidedly non-trusty. Unfortunately all cars are full of "hardware issues" to some extent, so replacing my current set of car woes with an unknown set is kinda stressful ( Read more... )

All forms of transport are bad in different ways.

Car - Travelling by car is ok. It gets you places fast, except when it doesn't. Permits long distance travel. You're dry, can carry passengers and luggage, and set your own schedule.
