Just a quick question that's been nagging at me lately...

Would Light have been given a license to own a firearm on joining the NPA? I'm not entirely sure how the system works, and in some fics I've read he does, in others he doesn't. If he does, why wasn't he carrying a gun to the Yellow Box incident, or could this just be explained as a (frankly rather understandable) phobia or precaution on Near's part

Maybe it's because Light was assigned to the Information bureau where firearms aren't really necessary?
