In the anime when L and Light are at the cafe... Light had made a statement that he knew he was one of the people Raye was investigating.. I don't remember L ever saying he was being investigated... wouldn't that be a huge red flag. "Definitely Kira ( Read more... )

Light did meet Raye Penbar face to face on the bus and saw his badge and full ID and all of this was in front of a few witnesses. I don't remember the exact content of the conversation at the cafe but when Light saidthat, it could have just come out that Light knew someone was tailing him and he found out said individual was an FBI agent (and Light's date and who knows how many other people witnessed this revelation). That could tell L that Light is just very observant and that he did meet Raye Penbar. L probably thought that was suspicious that Light meets Raye Penbar and all the FBI agents die, but that is not hard evidence at that time.

Hey, sorry I'm late to respond - I just watched the anime again, and I don't think Light said that at the cafe.. I think it was in the hospital with his dad? But L had mentioned Raye Penber died, so he was investigating Light, so it's natural for Light to conclude that he was being watched by Penber.

Unless I missed it at the cafe scene. ^^;

Were you watching the sub version or dubbed? x.x if subbed I don't think he said so.

Dubbed he did. He said it right before he went into his speel about being the only one investigated.

L had only mentioned 12 FBI agents came to Japan. But I don't think he had mentioned which one was tailing Light. I think he would be with-holding that information to catch Kira.

It would make sense to not give out hints and to see what Light might say about being followed by an FBI agent. I particularly thinkt he FIB thing is just weird because there has to be a lot of Government involved and then the Kira situation would be on a bigger government level than I believe it is in the anime/manga.

Anyway -

I havent seen the dubbed version. But I think Light is smarter than what most people give him credit for, even with his grades in school. I think Raye Penbar even said something about following light in the bus, I cannot remember because I only watched the anime once, so please forgive me if I have it wrong.
