Death Note's fandom

It's true that Death Note is one of my favorite series of all time, but when I think of the others that emotionally impacted me, I've noticed that I'm pretty rarely persuaded to be active in the fandom. In some series, I feel that everything that needed to be said was expressed in the actual canon, so I'm content with my own thoughts/opinions. In ( Read more... )

I'm not really into Death Note's fandom, mostly because fic and fanart and don't interest me very much for this series-- there's so much depth and so many unanswered questions, but with all the potential for discussion, death_note ends up mostly being BL and RP ads. I think it's kind of a shame... Which is why I joined this comm ^_^;

I've read some character-study fic though, a few of them have been good.

^I agree with your gripes about death_note. I suppose that happens with all gen communities. They become basically places to advertise RPs, fanfics, icons, etc., and there's little to no actual discussion. Though I happen to like BL, especially in concerns to Death Note (8D) I'd rather have intelligent discussion about rather than watch a series exclusively for yaoi.

Also, incidentally, that's why I started this comm. XD Try to get all the serious fans together who want to actually talk about the series.

I admit, I love discussions about Death Note. I wish my english was good enough that I could get into those discussions - and really be able to explain what I think about the series/characters etc. But I'm happy most of the time just to read other people's opinions & discussions :) And except for doujinshi scanning - and lots of reading :P - I don't do much in the fandom.

But after the 2 years and a half I've known the series ... I'm still very much in love with it :P It's still one of the series with the most potential (discussions and all the rest). It usually takes a lot for me to get into series (more than superficially), and I can say in all the years I've been on internet and reading books/mangas/series/watching movies etc ... this is only my 2nd fandom ^^

:D I've also been around for two and a half years and I'm still not bored. No series (save Pokemon, in my younger days, haha!) has summoned this kind of constant intrigue for me. I don't think I'll ever "stop liking Death Note", even if I stop being active in the fandom.

Ohh, and your English is so great! :D Though I can understand not being confident. Heck, English is my first language and when I first joined the fandom, I was scared even to post a fanfic because I thought it was too intelligent a series for me.. but it's nice to see you around this fandom, really. :) And I know you have wonderfully well-thought out opinions, because you've commented on some of my posts before! ^^ Not to mention I love you terribly for the doujinshi scanning you do... 8D

I adore it. The fandom is absolutely wonderful, for the most part, and there's so many discussions to be had. The good fic is a study in psychology, criminology and anything else you care to name, and the bad stuff is hilariously easy to poke fun at.

I think it's going to be my One True Fandom for a long while yet. ^^

I agree with most of your comment, but I have one tiny thing - I don't think L liked Misa, and it's definitely not canon... I think he was just purposely acting like an innocent dork to lure her over to his side (because in the scene where she kisses him, he's trying to get her to pressure Light to join his investigation. She's just a means to an end..) L does a lot of bullshitting and manipulation in the series.

I love Death note because it makes a person think.
You don't have those weird plto twists like in Lost (no offence to those who like Lost) each decision that the characters make are perfectly normal for that character - not to mention that the whole Evil vs. Good thing is an age old story line and its nice to get that story but in a different light. This isn't Star Wars or Narnia or even Harry Potter - and things are on a more personal level with the reader that the story is at a basic level dealing with people on baisc human feelings.
