002: Accident [accidental video // action closed to outskirts of new bark]

[for all intents and purposes, video feed comes on to reveal static, followed by... well, nothing, really. There's also the audio feed, though, and apart from background music, you'll hear muffled commands from Light.]

Euphrates, use Tackle! [it's not like he's got much of a choice apart from that, really...]

[a series of 'Karp, karp' noises ( Read more... )

[Clive is walking right by. He does a double take at the Magikarp out of the water.]

So the fish here can survive outside water...[Yup, he hasn't been here long.]

That's right, but I haven't really ascertained if that's because they're able to breathe out of water, or if they can hold their breath long enough. [he notices this, and also betrays the fact that he, himself, hasn't been here for very long either.]

I would prefer to think it's the former--slightly less worrisome that way, considering they're essentially living in those. [He gestures to the Pokeball.] Well, I suppose it could be filled with water too...

Oh, where are my manners? My name is Clive. Have you perchance arrived here as well? [He's just trying to find some people to get along with really. That whole mom thing disturbed him quite a bit.]

I suppose so, but the ball itself is a mystery, so there's probably not much point in thinking too much about it.

I'm Light. [a friendly smile, as usual] Yes, I have. Just a few days ago, in fact.

[So you say, but he's still going to wonder about it.]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Light. I've just arrived a little over a week ago myself. I couldn't help but notice that you have a water Pokemon as your partner, and I was wondering if you have managed to explore that pond near New Bark Town.

[It's really the same for Light -- he'll say that, but he'll try and figure out how the thing works exactly during his free time.]

The pond? I've only taken a look at it for a bit. [He actually spent quite some time there, but considering he was focusing on his new partner, he hasn't really paid much attention to the normal-looking pond] Why?

Well, the locals and others I've spoken to all have directed me here to Cherrygrove, and I've simply wondered why that it's the case. I've tried walking around the perimeter, and--let's just say it's apparently impossible to reach the other side on foot. [He really tried. It felt like walking into a tree.]

I'd go ahead and swim in it myself, but apparently it's ill advised without a Pokemon capable of swimming.

[huh... He hasn't really tried that yet-- was there really a point in wandering away from the track, anyway?... He'll have to see what he's talking about at one point.]

It could have just been deeper than it looks. [a shrug.] How long did you spend in New Bark itself, anyway?

I though that might be the case. But for some reason, I was expecting something a little less mundane.

A couple of days actually. [Most notably by talking multiple times to the residents until they all started eerily repeating themselves] I guess you could say I'm not entirely convinced I've been removed from my "world," as it seems.

Understandable. [on both accounts] What's your partner like, by the way? [just out of curiosity]

[So, Light is a man of few words. Not surprising, since Clive usually talks too much anyways.]

My partner? Her species is apparently called Cubone--it's somewhat like a reptile. I'm afraid she doesn't particularly like the being near water, so I suppose it would be wholly impossible to expect to teach it to swim. [He's somewhat hesitant to let her out of the Pokeball though, only because her appearance is still quite morbid to him.]

A Cubone, huh. [a reptile..? Doesn't seem very much like one, when he saw the entry in the guide...] It's a ground-type; no wonder she doesn't like to be near water. It's one of their weaknesses.

[Well, it looks sort of like a dinosaur, and doesn't seem to have fur, so...Clive's no biologist. :|]

Yes, well, I'd liken it more to having the disposition of a cat, rather than the Wicked Witch of the West, if you're familiar with novel. It does drink water, at any rate. [Weakness is a pretty general term there. Clive supposes that it probably means Cubone is more susceptible to moldy growths and other diseases from being damp. He shrugs.] I can't say I'm too partial of getting drenched myself.

[understandable~]

Of course. I'd imagine there's no living creature that doesn't drink water at all, even in a place like this. [He's also not entirely sure himself, if it only encompasses attacks - but what Clive is saying suggests that it involves environments as well] Who would?

This kind of place actually makes you wonder what qualifies as a living creature here actually. Some of the Pokemon listed in the guide are quite...bizarre. [to say the least. And that's not even considering their Pokedex entries.]

I suppose I wouldn't have minded as much when I was younger.

That's true. [on both accounts] All of this would seem more fascinating than bizarre, from a child's point of view.
