Death Note Wikia Personality:
From the viewpoint of anyone that knows him, Light would be your perfect honors student, and highly attractive one, at that. He's got killer good looks, a charming personality and excellent grades - the very definition of the perfect man for just about anyone you might ask. Light has always had two separate personalities - the public facade he constantly maintains, and the true him, which he hides behind that facade. In his public facade, he maintains a positive public image with his classmates, so much that he is often invited to hang out with the rest of them.
However, the truth is that he had never really considered his classmates equals, looking on them with condescending eyes instead - all of that is merely a mask. A mask behind which lies his true self. A true self that is childish, arrogant, conceited, manipulative, and egoistical. A true self that thinks of no one but himself, and sincerely believes that no one is as great as he is. A true self that sees the rest of the world as black and white, that frowns upon the world as it is, and thinks of it as rotten. While there are these negative elements in his true personality, there are also those that are positive.
Light has a strong sense of justice and righteousness, if misguided, when the Note came into the picture. Even without the Note's influence, his aspiration had been to become a detective after graduating from university, and perhaps even to someday become the director of the National Police Agency in which his father was a chief as well. His strong sense of justice displayed clearly through his general disdain for crime, and lack of regard as human beings for those who would commit such crimes, while his sense of righteousness is shown while he stays clearly within the boundaries of the law (that is, until he crossed it due to his curiosity when the Note was involved), specifically when he refused to accept a firearms as self-defence because it was prohibited by Japanese Law.
He is also a highly motivated individual, regardless of what he was doing - his excellent grades certainly needed at least some amount of hard work put into studies, even if he was already a prodigy as it was. He worked hard to help his father with a number of cases even while being merely a high school, to gain some recognition beforehand, in the field of work that he aspired to go into once he had graduated from University. It seemed as if his motivation behind this had all been his father, Soichiro, who, as an admirable police chief, served as a role model for him.
Having been raised in the environment where all his needs were provided, and with the supposedly positive influence that is his father, Light is the very image of a sheltered prodigy, like a plant in a greenhouse. This very same upbringing also meant that he was instilled with a strong sense of pride for who he is: the top honors student in Japan, and a handsome young man from the family of his father. With this sense of pride, however, also came conceitedness and arrogance, due to always having been above everyone else in both status and ability.
His conceitedness and arrogance comes in strongly when it came to dealing with his classmates back in high school, as well as while dealing with L while working on the Yotsuba case. He views his classmates with condescending eyes while they do not notice, playing their games and chatting away with each other while class was being conducted. He looks upon L with pity in his eyes, thinking as L as an oddity without friends, without any sense of humanity in him.
Light is also rather childish, and it shows. He would never back away from a challenge, even if participating in the said challenge would result in a negative outcome for himself in indirect fashions that he may or may not be aware of. When he loses in a confrontation, he reacts badly, showing how much of a sore loser he really is - though he would more than likely hold back his rage on the matter until no one could see or hear him, before going off in an outburst.
To sum it up, even without the Note in question, Light would be one that wears a mask amongst others, but hides his true feelings beneath. On the surface, he would be a perfect man - Clever, handsome, athletic, and charming - while on the inside, he would be one with a strong sense of justice, righteousness, motivation and pride, but also a likewise arrogant person who thinks of others as below himself, a childish sore loser who would occasionally let his emotions get the better of him, a man who is motivated to do whatever it takes to achieve his goal and to win, and a selfish person who prioritizes himself and his goals above all else. That is who Light is.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths
- Above average: Though only human, he is still generally more athletic, more intelligent, and more good looking than the average person.
- Charmer: With his eloquent ways, he is easily able to get anyone he meets to like him. The relationships he shared with his friends and family is a good example of that.
- Meticulous: Light pays attention to the most miniscule of details, and makes use of that in further detail in his plans. One example would be how he makes use of three different traps to know if someone has been in his room - a decoy paper slip, a slightly lowered door handle, and a single pencil lead on the door's hinges.
- Foresight: Light often plans ahead of his actions, in case something goes wrong. A good example is how he stockpiles porno magazines inside a bookcase just in case of a situation where his room is bugged and wired, to justify the obvious decoy trap he had set up at his door.
- Planner: As a meticulous planner, Light comes up with intricate plans to achieve his goals, an example being how he has Ryuk write in fake rules in the Note before volunteering himself for confinement, to clear himself of accusation.
- Creative: Being well-versed in what 'normal' is, Light tends to use means that are in no way normal to throw others off. One example could be his booby trap to ensure no one discovers the Death Note hidden inside his drawer.
- Cautious: Light ensures that he knows the full details of anything he's doing before he does it, with an example being how he tests out the extent to which he may manipulate a person's actions before they die using the Death Note, before proceeding to plan the murder of the 12 FBI agents in Japan.
- Sly: Light is very good at pretending and lying. This is especially shown throughout the whole series, as he successfully manages to convince everyone (except for L) that he is indeed not Kira.
- Deductive: Even before the series had begun, Light has had a history of having helped with his father's cases as Chief of the Japanese Police. This shows that he is capable of some level of deductive thinking - much more than his own father for that matter, otherwise he probably would not have been involved at all.
- Committed: Once Light sets his sights upon a goal, he stops at nothing to work towards achieving it. His actions throughout the series is plain proof of that.
- Manipulative: Coupled with his way with eloquent ways and natural charm, he bends others to his will with ease. An example is his encounter with Naomi Misora, where he successfully gets her to confess to having given him a false name initially.
- Willpower: Light has willpower that is 'more than human. Godlike, even.' according to L. This is because he showed no change in emotion while issuing his punishment upon the criminals while he was under surveillance.
- Confident: A component of his arrogance, perhaps, but Light's confidence largely comes from his knowledge and proficiency in what he does.
Weaknesses
- Mortal: Being only human, he bears the same physical weaknesses as any other person.
- Egoistical: Being egoistical as Light is, his ego sometimes gets in the way of the bigger picture, disallowing him from properly thinking of the consequences of some of his actions at that time. This is shown during the very first showdown with L, where he had killed Lind L Taylor, when it would logically be preferable to maintain the public view that Kira was strictly punishing evil, and garner support as a 'hero', instead of showing that Kira would also kill whoever gets in his way.
- Impulsive: Light has the tendency of reacting impulsively when provoked, thus not allowing him to see the bigger picture at times. His killing Lind L Taylor when accused of being evil through L would again be a good example of this.
- Conceited: Being conceited as he is, he sometimes misses certain details because of overconfidence.
- Inexperience: Having led a largely sheltered life, and having had his parents provide for all his needs, Light is inexperienced, and thus allowed L to catch him off guard initially.
- Sore Loser: Light is terrible at coping with losing. The fact that he wavered from his initial goal of eliminating criminals towards eliminating criminals and any obstacles when L challenged him and caught him off guard is an example of that.

[So. As one would expect of the once-god-aspirant Light, he's done much information gathering and preparation before making his very first post here.]
[His smooth baritone comes through shortly after the feed begins its broadcast, complete with that background music unique to his new surroundings.] Good afternoon to all. [he begins, his tone as friendly as can be - he would've been even more friendly and show his face in a video broadcast, had he the means to confirm that Kira was definitely not here as well. Due to this, he similarly decides to use the false family name assigned to him for the duration of his investigation back home.]
I am Light Asahi, a new arrival. [he cuts his introduction short, moving quickly onto the crux of this post, and though he's hiding his urgency on the matter fairly well, it's still detectable by keen ears.]
Just prior to this, I had just been traveling with my business associates, so I believe they might have ended up here as well. That being said, has anyone heard of Shijuro Asahi, Hideki Ryuuga, Kanichi Moji and Taro Matsui? Please get back to me on the matter.
Thank you. [the feed briefly ends here, as he awaits responses for his question]
Third Person Sample:
First all he saw was L's blank look, as L held onto the Note in his hands. As he reached out towards it---
...
What the hell is this place?!
Upon being (literally) thrown into this new, completely alien surroundings - it was nothing like the cityscapes that he had grown up in and had gotten used to - Light first reaction was of course to have his eyes widen in shock, but not without also looking all about to gather as much information as he could about this place. There was no more hum of the helicopter engine, no more city lights, only...
What's that sound going on ceaselessly in the background?! It almost sounds like... background music for some sort of game...
Calming himself down fairly quickly, his first thought after quickly turned to getting as much information as he could, rather than to continue panicking. First came the bag, and these strange balls... Not that he's about to press any of the buttons on those balls and risk a possible explosion yet, of course.
Now then, to find out more...
...
[A Magikarp, huh. How strangely fitting, as far as my constellation sign is concerned. But... ]
He almost feels insulted, to have one of the weakest Pokemon in this new world as his starting partner. It'll have to do, though, nonetheless; crying over spilt milk wasn't something he did, after all.
After some time of searching through the bag and pulling out anything readable, he was soon flipping page after page of the two guides provided to him, and subsequently reading through and listening to entries on his PokéGear. Once he was done with that, he'd quickly decide upon a mode of transmission -- he was in a strange place, but that was no reason to drop all caution that Kira might just be here somewhere, so a video post was out of the question...
He then makes a post on the network, hoping that the hunch he had was indeed true. That L was here with him, since he had just been sitting next to him. And there was his father and the rest of the Task Force, too.
...
Finally, he was ready to face the Magikarp that he is now aware he possesses within one of these balls - the idea of containing a creature inside a ball as small as this was still rather ridiculous to him, but since being put here was already a ridiculous concept by itself, perhaps it wasn't such a tall story after all. He brings that single Pokéball to the water by the edge of the town, takes in a single breath, and presses down on that button--
-- Sure enough, just as Light had initially suspected, there was an explosion - but not a combustive one, of course - he would have dropped the ball in surprise, had he not read up on all that information beforehand. But that wouldn't be like Light at all, would it. Anyway. There was an explosion of light, ending with a single, red carp-like creature bopping and splashing ceaselessly upon the water in front of him.
"So you'll be my new partner, huh." he comments, directly addressing the Magikarp. These Pokémon, as they were called, were supposed to be able to understand human speech, weren't they?
"Karp, karp." came the reply, almost as if in agreement. Doesn't look like he'll be able to understand his Pokémon through words at all, then.
"Right then. Sound out twice, take a brief pause, then sound out once before swimming in a circle after that." he instructs. He'll need to know if this fish is capable of understanding what he's saying at all.
"Karp, karp." the Magikarp goes, obediently, and without question, "Karp." it goes again, before swimming in a circle, just as instructed. That answers that question, then.
"Excellent. We're in for some rough training, Euphrates." he comments, naming the female Magikarp after the winding river of the Middle East, perhaps a little prematurely. He was fully intending on training the currently-meek Pokémon up to the required amount for it to evolve quickly into the Gyarados, just as he had read about. With that said, he returned the Pokémon to its ball naturally, as if he had done this before, and pocketed the ball, ready to begin his journey, and eventually returning home, to see his family, to continue with the Kira investigation - that is, assuming it was still unsolved by the time he got home.
