silence

As much as I enjoy it, I think I have to stop listening to music: at some point it has become inimical to my ability to think. It doesn't hamper my ability to carry on a train of thought - but it does seem to reduce my desire to.

many things. for me enjoyment comes from two main sources - 1. emotional and 2. aesthetic appreciation for form. often the two overlap, especially for classical music, but I find the intention with which I listen to the music affects how I'm influenced.

try listening to classical music? for some reason it doesn't make you wallow as much, if that is a problem. the emotions it inspires also tend to be more intricate and intelligent.

good idea, I have a pile of classical which I haven't generally synced to my
phone

(I did have instrumental stuff of the thumpy soundtrack variety or the ... sparkly? solo piano/etc. stuff but their emotional pull has distracting. I keep wanting to think of other things.)

I get around that by refusing to listen to music while working!
